HOLD | Grief Group
Grief can feel heavy, isolating, and deeply personal—especially when life expects you to keep functioning as usual. HOLD is a compassionate therapy group for adults navigating grief, loss, and anticipatory grief, including those caring for a loved one with a terminal illness.
This group offers a space to slow down, be honest about what’s heavy, and feel supported without pressure to “move on” or explain your pain. Grief looks different for everyone. HOLD honors that there is no timeline, no right way to grieve, and no expectation to have it figured out.
How does this group work?
Grief, Caregiving, and Anticipatory Loss
Many participants in HOLD are processing their grief or caring for a family member with a terminal illness. This type of grief—often called anticipatory grief—can bring layers of exhaustion, guilt, fear, love, and sadness all at once.
In this group, caregivers are welcomed and supported in:
Naming the emotional weight of caregiving
Processing the ongoing nature of anticipatory grief
Exploring grief that exists alongside love and responsibility
Finding support without judgment or minimization
You do not need to wait for a loss to be “complete” to deserve support.
Grief can feel isolating, as if no one truly understands your experiences. In a group, you meet others who do understand - people who have also experienced loss and are navigating similar emotions. This shared connection helps normalize your feelings, reducing the loneliness that often comes with grief. This group provides a structured, therapeutic space where you can express your emotions without fear of judgement or pressure to “move on.”
Each group member brings unique insights into coping with loss. Hearing others’ stories can offer new perspectives, validation, and hope. It helps to see that healing is possible, even when it feels distant. A therapist-led group ensures that discussions remain supportive and productive. You will gain tools and strategies to manage grief in a healthy way, while also receiving emotional support from both the therapist and group members.
Over time, group members often develop a strong sense of connection. Being part of a community that truly understand your loss can be incredibly comforting and affirming. Through guided discussions and activities, you’ll learn techniques to cope with grief and process feelings in a way that fosters healing rather than avoidance.
What Group Is Like
Each HOLD session is gently structured to create safety and connection. Group elements may include:
Open, compassionate conversation
Psychoeducation about grief and the nervous system
Mindfulness and grounding practices
Reflection and gentle journaling prompts
Space to share or simply listen—both are welcome
There is no pressure to speak, fix, or reframe your experience. Presence is enough.
Grief isn’t linear. Many people benefit from long term support or revisiting a group at different stages. Knowing there’s a place to return to can provide reassurance during tough times.

The grief group is not billed under insurance so that cost is out of pocket and $50 per person for the 90 minute psychotherapy process group session.
There is a one time pre-group assessment session to meet one on one with Lisa prior to the group to gather some information and history. The cost of this pre-group assessment is also $50. The purpose of the pre-group assessment is for Lisa to learn about each group member individually and any needs they may have. This session is usually about 30 minutes.
Members of the group will also receive a custom workbook to utilize in session and outside of session.

Are caring for a family member with a terminal illness
Are experiencing anticipatory grief
Feel isolated in their grief and want connection
Are looking for support that honors the complexity of loss
A Trauma-Informed, Nervous System–Centered Approach
HOLD is grounded in the understanding that grief lives in both the mind and body. This group integrates trauma-informed care and nervous system awareness to support regulation, emotional processing, and resilience.
The focus is not on “getting over” grief, but on learning how to live alongside it with support and compassion.
“Grief never ends…But it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith…It is the price of love.”
