Healing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being real.

What is THRIVE?

THRIVE is a therapist-led eating recovery group for teens that blends psychoeducation, meal support, coping skills, and creative expression. The group is designed to meet teens where they are - supporting recovery while honoring development, autonomy, and nervous system needs.

Teens are not expected to be “perfect” or fully confident in recovery. THRIVE focuses on building awareness, skills, and self-compassion over time.

Parents & Caregivers

Supporting a teen through eating disorder recovery can feel overwhelming - for both teens and their caregivers. THRIVE is a trauma-informed therapy group designed to support teens in eating disorder recovery while fostering connection, skill-building, and emotional safety.

This group offers a structured yet creative space where teens can learn, practice, and grow alongside peers who understand what they’re going through.

Why Parent Involvement Matters

Research consistently shows that family involvement improves outcomes in adolescent eating disorder recovery. Teens do not recover alone — and they shouldn’t have to.

THRIVE includes intentional caregiver integration through:

  • Parent education on the eating disorder cycle

  • Nervous system-informed approaches to mealtimes

  • Understanding the difference between the “eating disorder voice” and your teen’s healthy self

  • Practical strategies for meal support and emotional regulation at home

  • A structured parent session for connection, questions, and guidance

You will leave with clarity on your role, increased confidence in responding to difficult moments, and a framework for supporting recovery at home.

What Teens Will Experience in Group

Each THRIVE session is thoughtfully structured to balance learning, support, and creativity. Group elements may include:

  • Psychoeducation about eating disorders, emotions, and the nervous system

  • Meal Support to practice nourishment in a supportive environment and practice coping skills in real time

  • Mindfulness practices to build awareness and regulation

  • Coping skills for managing anxiety, urges, and distress

  • Art-based activities that allow expression without pressure to talk before feeling ready

  • Journaling prompts for reflection and self connection

  • Music during creative activities to promote grounding and ease

Teens are encouraged to participate at their own pace. Talking is never forced, and multiple forms of expression are welcomed.

A Creative, Nervous System-Informed Approach

THRIVE is grounded in the understanding that eating disorder recovery is not just about food - it’s about safety, regulation, and connection. Creative activities like art, journaling, and music support nervous system regulation and allow teens to express emotions that can be hard to put into words.

This approach helps teens:

  • Reduce shame and isolation

  • Build emotional awareness

  • Develop healthier coping strategies

  • Strengthen trust in themselves and their bodies

Custom THRIVE Workbook

Each participant receives a custom-created workbook designed specifically for the THRIVE group. The workbook supports learning and reflection both in and outside of sessions and may include:

  • Psychoeducation worksheets

  • Coping skill tools

  • Journaling prompts

  • Art-based reflection pages

  • Space for personal insights and growth

The workbook helps reinforce skills and gives teens something tangible to return to between sessions.
